Links and personal
stuff
You are what you
link... The list starts off with the professional and as such rather
harmless links. Those more personal links will be visible för
courageous guests who dare scroll further down.
...SFÖ
- The Swedish Association of Professional translators, the youngest and
biggest association for translators in Sweden, with almost 1000 members.
I work on the web team and in the grouip that will plan the 2008
conference in Västerås! The SFÖ web site includes a highly efficient
search engine for those hunting a translator with a particular set of
competences. One of the translators that may pop up there is...
...Cecilia
Falk, whose web site belongs to the heritage of translation business
- a true gold mine of information for newbies as well as for seasoned
translators.
Norskjal
- a very active mailing list for queries and thoughts concerning
translations to and from the Nordic languages. We discuss in a mixture
of nordic languages and English, and also manage to meet IRL from time
to time.
The
Translator's Home Companion is a rather more international classic
among translation sites. Loads of information on tools for translators,
mainly so called CAT tools (Computer Aided Translation).
Translation
Journal - a webzine with sometimes immensly valuable articles on
translation, written by various translators. The layout of the site
leaves a lot to be desired. but content as well as links makes it well
worth a visit. I am especially fond of Danilo Nogueira's articles.
The
Corporate Bullshit Generator, obviously intensely used by some
writers. Fortunately any such sentence, void of content, can be
efficiently translated with the aid of its Swedish
counterpart,
the
Floskelgenerator at
Avigsidan.
Personal links
Alienapics -
the site which my wife Anna has created in order to display her photos
and poems. Anna's photos are usually unexpected and intriguing views of
objects which one would normally not give a second thought.
Fotosidan
- a cool community for photo freaks. (No particular logo, thus I use one
of my own photos on the site). All in Swedish, but photography is an
international language, so what's the problem? My personal corner of
Fotosidan is
here. Not all that many photos yet, but that will change!
Bruce
Lee, the divine wind. Not the most beautiful but probably the most
complete site about Bruce Lee - the man who showed the western world
what oriental martial arts is all about.
www.whitehouse.org
- a site which appears to originate from whence you think it originates
- until you slowly begin to realize so is not the case. The
Department of Faith is a hit!

Exchristian.net
- a community with a wealth of information for those who seriously
suspect Christianity in reality has rather less to offer than the
commercials promised.
Art
nudes - a photo blog with beautiful tasteful nudes that provide a
wealth of inspiration. No particular logo, so I borrow this beautiful
torso by Michael Barnes (N.B: it is his photo, not his torso).
Epicurus
and Epicurean philosophy. One of those numerous ancient Greeks, one
who had a lot of clever stuff to tell us. So had the other ancient
Greeks in the philosophy book as well I presume, but I nurture a
particularly soft spot for Epicurus. A few quotes:
"Before you eat or drink
anything, consider carefully who you eat or drink with."
"Wealth consists not in
having great possessions, but in having few wants."
"Is God willing to prevent evil,
but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?"
Let me end this link list with
another philosophic quote:
"I don't need to be induced in
temptation - I can walk myself!"
